The Report on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2010 recommends shifting "food intake patterns to a more plant-based diet that emphasizes vegetables, cooked dry beans and peas, fruits, whole grains, nuts, and seeds." (p. A-2). The report also suggests that the general population consume moderate amounts of lean meats, poultry and eggs.
School Nutrition Services cannot meet the needs of everyone; however, we do offer vegetarian choices each day. Some include fresh made chef salads, brown and long grain white rice, many different vegetables and fruits, hummus, soy milk (both available at T.C. Williams daily-request for other schools), peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, and bean dishes such as bean and cheese burrito, Savory Mexican Beans and black bean casserole.
