As ACPS looks to future building construction and renovations, the School Board has developed an energy management prototype for all future school renovations and has adopted the following policy:
Use of energy-conserving construction shall be a high priority. The design proposal for each major construction project, both new construction and renovation of existing buildings, that is most compatible with the criteria provided by the US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, or its successor, within an acceptable budget shall have priority.
Two ACPS "modified calendar" schools - Mount Vernon Community School and Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School - offer three intersessions throughout the school year, featuring a wide selection of both remedial and special-interest classes.
